All criminal cases begin in the Magistrates’ Court, whether you have been charged following a police investigation or received a postal requisition requiring you to attend court. At your first appearance, the court will usually consider the nature and seriousness of the allegation, whether you intend to plead guilty or not guilty and whether the case should remain in the Magistrates’ Court or proceed to the Crown Court.
